Hi! My name is Jack Dorsey. I am a violinist and musician headed to Oberlin Conservatory in the Fall to study with Francesca dePasquale. While I consider myself a violinist, I also sing and play the piano, and can play a few other instruments as well. I love all types of music, including Jazz, Pop, R&B, Funk, Classic Rock, Latin, Hip-Hop, Theatre, and of course, Classical. In addition to music, I am also a passionate photographer (both film and digital), actor, and I love working out (when I have the time). I also enjoy collecting fountain pens, and I use them for everything from journaling to jotting down notes. Feel free to ask me about any of these things and I will happily tell you more! Some of my favorite violinists include Hilary Hahn, Augustin Hadelich, Maxim Vengerov, James Ehnes, Itzhak Perlman, Ray Chen, Janine Jansen, and Pinchas Zukerman.
My goal as an artist has always been to spread love and joy through music. I believe that music is the best way to share emotions directly to another person, and I strive to fully express my own emotions and enjoy the beauty of music.
I currently use a violin made by Ryan Fini and a bow made by Aaron Fini - two brothers based in Baltimore, MD.
At six months old, as soon as I could sit still, my mother started taking me to music classes. At the age of four, I took my first violin group lesson at a Montessori kindergarten, playing with a foam violin and dowel rod. I began violin lessons at the Roberson School of Music until 2017, when I began studying with Dr. Yoon Young Bae at the Peabody School of Music (pictured to the right).
Since beginning my studies with Dr. Bae, I have won First prize in the MSMTA Young Musicians Competition for Violin and Cello in March of 2024, performed as concertmaster of the Peabody Youth Orchestra, and attended summer programs including the Heifetz International Music Festival and the Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival, studying with violinists Bela Horvath, Kyung Sun Lee, and Corinne Stillwell. I have also participated in masterclasses, including a masterclass with Rachel Barton Pine in Fall 2025. I am eternally grateful for Dr. Bae and her guidance for over 9 and a half years; without her, I would not be where I am today. She is the most incredible person and an amazing teacher, and she is a very important reason as to why I want to be a musician and to change the world via music.
